We have been hearing about a girl from Lenore that had been killin it this softball season and after seeing what she done in the Mingo County Championship game last night, we are definitely excited about her future once she get's to Tug Valley High School. Kyla Waller caught our attention after Lenore's first meeting against the Williamson Wolfpack, she had a great day, going 4-4 against one of the most dominate middle school pitchers in the Mountains, Trista Marcum. Fast forward to last night, we got to see a much anticipated rematch between the Rangers and the Wolfpack, surely she couldn't hit Marcum again, could she? Yes she could and she did, Marcum don't get hit much, she is as close to a sure thing as we have in the coalfields but Kyla Waller seems to have her number.

Waller went out and had another 4-4 outing against Marcum but also hit a 2 run blast over the left field fence to put the Rangers ahead in the bottom of the 4th and from then on, Lenore never lost the lead again. Waller had a single, 2 doubles, a home run and 3 RBI's in the game, the homer marked the first time a home run had ever been hit in the Mingo County Championship game. The Rangers ended up defeating the Wolfpack 9-4 and took home their 3rd consecutive Mingo County Championship. Waller earned All-Tournament honors for the 2nd straight year, she went 5-8 in the tournament with a single, 3 doubles, 1 home run and 3 RBI's.

Kyla is a very humble person, after all the success she had this season Kyla told D&D Sports "I give all the credit to my coaches and teammates, without them I am nothing, I have benefited from great coaching in the Mountains, Trista Marcum. Although Waller has a humble personality, she doesn't have much to be humble about, when you look at her season stats. Waller played 14 games, in 41 at bats Waller had 25 hits, 14 singles, 6 doubles, 5 triples,15 RBI's and scored 25 runs. She only struckout 4 times all season long, Waller has a mind blowing .610 batting average, a .667 on base percentage, a 1,000 slugging percentage and a .5.24 batting average with runners in scoring position. She is a extremely patient hitter, she takes pitchers deep into the count and more times than not, she finds herself on base, Waller is also smooth on the base pads, she has 11 stolen bases on the season.(All stats were regular season only)
Kyla Waller is a player that the Mountains will hear about for years to come, she loves the game and has the work ethic it takes to be great. There are many talented girls on this Lenore team we will be telling you about over the next few months but Waller made it impossible not to start with her, after the show stopping performance she put on against one of the best pitcher in the Mountains. When you combine Kyla and the rest of the Rangers with a dominate pitcher like Autumn Hall, Tug Valley has an extremely bright future.throughout my career at Lenore and can't wait to suit up in the Silver & Black"
