Heading into the Week 9 matchup between the Belfry Pirates and the Lawrence County Bulldog's we knew the players each team had to stop was Belfry's Isaac Dixon and Lawrence County's Noah West. The Lawrence County QB got his 180 yard average when he rushed 20 times for 182 yards and 3 scores but Belfry's Isaac Dixon stole the show.
Dixon's speed was on display from the opening whistle, after the Belfry defense stopped Lawrence Co. on the first possession, Isaac Dixon fielded a punt at the 20 and turned on the jets, he took it 80 yards to the house. Dixon is a legit 4.5 player with the potential to run in the 4.4's, the Bulldog defense had no shot on this night, this kid was torching them every time he got his hands on the ball. "Dangerous" Isaac Dixon came into this game averaging a whopping 15 yards a carry, he ended this night with 12 rushing attempts, 165 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Dixon wasn't the only Pirate to have a great night, QB Avery Browning went 3/3 in the passing game, 144 yards and 3 scores. Browning has been one of the most efficient QB's in Kentucky this season, he has completed 17 of 20 passes for nearly 600 yards, 10 touchdowns and did all of that while not throwing 1 single interception. Browning is a dual threat quarterback, he has a very nice set of wheels on him and reads defenses extremely well. Browning kept on his two favorite targets last night, hitting Justin Barker for one TD and found Ben Bentley for two more touchdowns through the air.
With all these offensive weapons racking up these big stats, we would be crazy not to mention the men that make it possible, this Pirate offense is lucky to have "Haywood's Hogs" in front of them clearing paths and personally escorting them to the end zone. This Belfry line is as good as it gets in the state of Kentucky, there isn't a better line in 3A and maybe not in the entire state. The line is anchored by two absolute brute's in center Ethan Wolford and guard Dagen Rash, These two lineman alone holds as many collegiate offers as all the lineman in the Mountains put together.
The Pirates ended up winning 56-28 locking up their 7th consecutive victory, Belfry improves their overall record to 7-1 on the season. Next week Belfry will host the Pike Central Hawks at Cam Stadium for their final District game of the season.
