Maddie Vaughn threw a No-Hitter on Wednesday to lead the Pike County Central Hawks past the Sheldon Clark Cardinals 15-0, she was a hit batter away from a Perfect Game. Vaughn induced a fly out from Paige Maynard to end the game.
The Hawks opened up scoring in the first inning. Sydney Lowe singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Pike Central notched six runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from fielder's choices by Lowe and Abby Huffman, by Charles Makaylee, and a double by Skylar Stumbo. Vaughn earned the win for Pike Central. She lasted four innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero. Gracie Presley took the loss for Sheldon Clark. She surrendered 15 runs on 14 hits over four innings, striking out five and walking one.
The Hawks socked one home run on the day, Kayleigh Thomas went yard in the second inning. Thomas led the team with 9 home runs on the season last year.
Pike Central tallied 14 hits on the day. Chloe Neece, Vaughn, Lowe, Huffman, Stumbo, and Thomas all managed multiple hits for Pike County Central Hawks Varsity. Neece led the Hawks with three hits in four at bats.
Pike Central didn't commit a single error in the field. Lowe had five chances in the field, the most on the team.
