When it comes to football in the Mountains the running back is the glory position on the majority of teams, there are very few pass heavy offenses in the Coalfields. Johnson Central is one of the premier teams in the Mountains and are fighting for their fourth consecutive trip to the state championship game this Friday Night vs Knox Central. Johnson Central's Coach Matney has built a dynasty around having a great backfield and this year is a prime example of it. Matney has a horse this year that he can hand it to 20-30 times a game if he wants and get 250-300yds with ease.
Joe Jackson is a name that has been a staple in Mountain football for a few years now, this season Jackson hasn't disappointed anyone with his production after returning from a season ending injury last year. Jackson sophomore year he jumped on everyone's radar after having a 2,000 yard season and most people wouldn't have guessed he would ever reach 2,000 again after having such a gruesome injury but he proved the naysayers wrong last Friday Night. Jackson led the Golden Eagles to a 50-14 victory over their 4A rival Ashland with a 332yd and 5 touchdown performance surpassing the magical 2,000 yard mark once again. Jackson leads 4A in rushing, with 2,024 yards he is the only back over 2,000 and averaged 10yds a carry with 27 touchdowns. Jackson's backfield mate Devin Johnson broke over 1,000 against Ashland with a 192yd, 1TD performance his self. This Friday night let's rally behind the Golden Eagles and go out and support Jackson and his teammates as they face Knox Central.
